In the Footsteps of Cardinal Newman
This October marks the 180th anniversary of the most famous conversion to Catholicism of the nineteenth century — St. John Henry Cardinal Newman. This pilgrimage, led by Father Peter Stravinskas, editor of The Catholic Response and president of the Catholic Education Foundation, and Dr. Robert Royal, editor of The Catholic Thing, will be a holistic experience, embracing the spiritual, historical, theological, and literary aspects of the life and work of the great Cardinal. Taking account of this multi-faceted approach, Pontifex University is offering three credits in either theology or education.

Day 1 - Sunday, October 05: Departure to London
Leave Newark
Day 2 - Monday, October 06:
Arrive at London Heathrow airport and transfer to the hotel by private coach with an English-speaking assistant. Then, the group will move around London by public transport. This morning, the group visits Westminster Cathedral. Lunch nearby in a local pub or restaurant. Then you will reach Tyburn convent and visit. Then return in time for Fr Peter to con-celebrate Mass at Westminster Cathedral. Dinner at a local pub or restaurant. Overnight at your hotel in London.
Day 3 - Tuesday, October 07:
Breakfast at your hotel. This morning, start with the visit of the Tower of London. Lunch nearby in a local pub or restaurant. The group continues its pilgrimage by visiting St John Henry Newman's birthplace in the City of London. Mass at a local church (church of St Mary Moorfields or St. Etheldreda's subject to availability). Dinner at a local pub or restaurant. Overnight at your hotel in London.
Day 4 - Wednesday, October 08:
Breakfast at your hotel. Leave London for Littlemore/Oxford Visit Stratford-on-Avon en route with the visit of Shakespeare’s Birthplace. Holy Hour at Littlemore. Check in your hotel in Woodstock. Dinner at leisure and overnight.
Day 5 - Thursday, October 09:
Breakfast at your hotel. Holy Mass at Littlemore. Visit to the Church of St Mary/St Nicholas (“Parting of Friends”). Continue on to Oxford and visit of the Trinity College where John Henry Newman studied. Return to your hotel in Woodstock. Dinner at leisure and overnight.
Day 6 - Friday, October 10:
Breakfast at your hotel. Holy Mass at Oxford Oratory (or similar). Visit of the University Church of St Mary’s the Virgin with a professional approved local guide. Return to your hotel in Woodstock. Dinner at leisure and overnight.
Day 7 - Saturday, October 11:
Breakfast at your hotel. Holy mass at Blackfriars Priory Oxford. End of the day at leisure. Return to your hotel in Woodstock. Dinner at leisure and overnight.
Day 8 - Sunday, October 12:
Breakfast at your hotel. Leave for Birmingham. En route, visit Maryvale. Visit the Oratory Church and Newman’s rooms (subject to availability only, by appointment only). Mass at a local church. Check in your hotel. Dinner at leisure and overnight.
Day 9 - Monday, October 13:
Breakfast at your hotel. Leave Birmingham for London En route, visit St Alban’s where you will visit the cathedral and enjoy mass at a local church. Check in your hotel in London. Dinner at leisure and overnight.
Day 10 - Tuesday, October 14:
Breakfast at your hotel and Transfer to Heathrow airport. Flight for Rome. Visit St. Paul Outside the walls, enter the Holy Door and celebrate Mass, before checking in at the hotel, for dinner and overnight.
Day 11 - Wednesday, October 15:
We depart the hotel in the early morning, to San Peter's square, to attend the Papal Audience. After break for lunch, we will enter the Holy Door at St Peter's Basilica - By walk we reach Castel St Angelo, walk over the bridge to cross the river and reach Santa Maria in Vallicella ( Chiesa Nuova) to visit St Philip Neri's rooms - and to celebrate Mass. Continue to Navona Square. Break for lunch - Afternoon at leisure. Dinner at the hotel.
Day 12 - Thursday, October 16:
Start the day with Mass at St Mary Major - Enter the Holy Door. Continue towards Via Val Cannuta ( border of the city) to visit the Newman friends center. Return to the hotel. Afternoon at leisure - Dinner at the hotel.
Day 13 - Friday, October 17:
Star the day with Mass at St John Lateran (TBC) Enter the Holy Door. Visit also the Holy Stairs - Then we walk along the monuments of the Imperial Rome area, see the Colosseum ( outside) and the Roman Forums. We reach the Ghetto for independent lunch. In the afternoon we will visit San Giorgio al Velabro and Santa Maria in Cosmedin Return to the hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 14 - Saturday, October 18:
Visit Propaganda Fide (TBC) and continue to the PNAC ( North American College) - Balance of the day at leisure - Dinner on our own.
